CTMH - Another Christmas card with Art Philosophy and cutting instructions, too!

This card was quick and easy! And that's a good thing, since I'm WAY behind on getting the Christmas cards out this year. As long as they're postmarked by Friday, I'm fine - right?

Set your Cricut to 5 1/2", then select the buttons below - "CARD" and the 8th button from the left in the fourth row. Load the Sweet Leaf cardstock, then cut. This is your card base.

Other dimensions (Using a paper trimmer)
Plaid: 3" x 5 1/2"
Stripe: 1/2" x 5 1/2"
Holiday Red: 3/4" x 5 1/2"
Topiary: 2"x 3 3/4"
White Daisy: 1 1/2" x 3 1/2"

I lightly inked the edges of the card front in Topiary, and added Red Glitz for the holly berries.

I love how easy it is to use the Art Philosophy cartridge to make quick and easy gifts/enclosures! Today, I'm going to share with you how I made this simple tag card turned into a gift pocket.

Here are the step by step instructions:

Supplies:
Cricut Art Philosophy Collection

Paper Packet: Believe

Ink: Topiary

Ribbon: White Daisy Grosgrain

Stamp Set: B1381 - Holiday Cheer

Tools: Trimmer and Corner Rounder

Step 1 - Set Cricut to 5 1/4", and load Holiday Red cardstock. Select Card - and the tag image all the way to the right.

Step 2: When the base is cut, add 1/8" double sided tape to the left and bottom. Close tag, and you've created a pocket.

Step 3: Cut 4"x4" square from Topiary cardstock with your trimmer, then round the corners.

Step 4: Set Cricut to 3 3/4". Cut plaid piece as follows - 2nd row, 4th from the left.

Step 5: Layer the plaid piece onto the topiary piece.

Step 6: Add White Daisy grosgrain ribbon to the center of the piece above.

Step 7: Set Cricut to 1 1/4". Load Sweet leaf cardstock. Select 3rd row down, 6th button from left.

Step 8: Stamp image in Topiary ink.

Step 9: Add stamped image to top of ribbon.

Step 10: Add this piece to the front of the tag card.

I then used tulle and curling ribbon to wrap the small item I'm placing in the card. It's fun and festive, yet very easy to make! Here's another look at the finished product - all ready to give to the recipient:

CTMH - working with sketches

I'm taking a the Sketch Support class with Allison Davis at My Creative Classroom. I love working with sketches, as they make the process of creating a layout fast, simple and easy. I took the class because I love sketches, but don't always take the time to see what I can do beyond the simple blueprint provided. My goal with this class is to step out of the comfort zone and make the sketch my own.

Here are the layouts I created from the first week's sketch.

For this one, I followed the sketch closely. I did make a substitute on the lower left; it called for 3 photos, but I had one that I wanted to use. I used the Elemental Paper Packet and the Lucky Level 2 Assortment for my accents.

For this layout, I used the sketch for the photo sizes, placement and embellishments, but I added an 11"x11" sheet on both sides so that there wasn't so much white (or in this case, olive) space. For this layout, I used the Mayberry paper packet and Button assortment in Green.

I didn't change either of the layouts to an extreme, but I'm happy with the way both turned out.

For this one, I used our 6"x6" Kraft envelopes (from our Kraft Die Cut Cards - will have a separate post on what I did with the cards!). I used the Art Philosophy cartridge to cut all of the shapes on this mini album.

I love bite size projects - you know, the kind where you can work on it in bits and pieces then put it all together. Envelope mini albums are perfect bite size projects, and I've been working on them like crazy these past few weeks. I'll start with the most recent:

I used regular "personal" envelopes (5) of them for this project. I also used the Believe paper packet and the Holiday Wishes stamp set and Tag the Occasion stamp set along with Topiary ink, Desert Sand ink for distressing edges, shapes from the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge, white grosgrain ribbon and Red Glitz Glitter Gel.

CTMH - Holiday Wishes card

My stamp set arrived on Thursday, but I didn't have a chance to play with it - until today! I think Holiday Wishes might be my favorite stamp set, ever!

I used the Art Philosophy cartridge to cut out all of the pieces of this card - from the card base on up to the ornament. I used Crystal Blue for the card base and then Wonderland patterned papers for the pieces, including the background. I stamped the image and sentiment in Twilight ink, inked all of the edges with Twilight, then added Twilight brads. I think it took me under 15 minutes to make this simple card!

I really, really do love this cartridge. For years, I've owned a baby bug, and when I saw the expression on sale at a store back in the spring, I bought it. And it sat, in the box. Until July. Sometimes, Life gets in the way

You may have noticed, I haven't added events to my calendar. Never fear, they are coming, and soon. But I wanted to take a minute to let you know why....

We've had some health issues in my family; my father was hospitalized and then in a skilled nursing facility since mid July. I've been busy with that, as well as running back and forth on the weekends. I'm lucky that my brother lives with my father and has been visiting each and every day. My father looked great yesterday. He was in good spirits. He will be going home this week, to the home that he has lived in for 50+ years.

So, I now can turn my attention to planning out the next few months of events and workshops. I hope you can join me for some of these fun events!

Each year, I support friends that walk in the Breast Cancer 3 Day all over the country. This year, my friend Jenni is walking in Boston in July, along with several other friends. From May 27th through May 31st 2011, I will donate my 22% commission on all sales to Jenni's team (donation to be made the first week of June).

CTMH - Some questions I've received on becoming a consultant with the 1/2 price kit

The other day, someone asked me what happens if they decide being a consultant isn't for them.
If you join and decide it's not for you - no problem! You can either resign (terminate your status) or you can just let it run it's natural course. What I mean - if you sign in May, then decide it's not for you in June, you have a few options. You can send a letter of resignation to the corporate office, effectively terminating immediately. Or you can just not meet your minimums in 3rd quarter, dropping to Junior, then not meet your minimums in 4th quarter which would mean that you would exit in January 2012. You are not obligated in any way once you get your kit!

I also received the a question as to what type of upline support I offer (from someone not local to me):
I have a team website to share my templates of classes that I have put together as well as share tips and ideas. I am available by phone, cell phone, and email to help you in any way that you need. I will work with you based on your wants and needs. If you want to talk weekly, we can set up a time to do that. If you're more the type that likes to dig in without someone nearby, then I can be that type of upline as well. I think that each person has a different need from an upline - I'm available to work with you to meet your needs!

See that sweet little face - so innocent looking. Yeah, well, not so much! That's my Sofie - a sweet looking but somewhat sneaky miniature schnauzer. We've discovered that she loves raw spinach - fresh from the garden no less! Which wouldn't be so bad, if she weren't hopping the little fence to get into the garden in order to eat the spinach while it's still growing. (She doesn't get much since she always gets caught). I'm thinking we should change her name to Popeye!

Reflections on Mother's Day

Mother's Day changed for me 4 years ago. My mother passed away in April 2007, and that first Mother's Day without her was unbearable for me. And I had "mommy guilt" on top of it; my children wanted to do something for me, but I was inconsolable. As time passes, it's gotten easier. For me though, Mother's Day is still a day when I take some time to reflect and remember my mother.

I found a few quotes that I thought I would share today:

They've been taking lessons for 4 years. She plays the flute; he plays the trumpet. We have endured, I mean enjoyed, band concerts twice a year.

This one, though was different. The band sounded WONDERFUL! They got it together and sounded good. It was an enjoyable evening of music. I'm so glad. Hopefully, they'll love music as much as I do.

This past weekend, I attended Close to My Heart's Leadershare program in King of Prussia. It was an awesome, incredible, fun, wonderful (dare I add FABULOUS) day filled with training - both business and creative. It was hosted by Kathy Markloff - a Senior Executive Director who will be celebrating 20 years with Close to My Heart this year (Congratulations Kathy!). Kristine and Brian - both corporate VP's shared business training on maintaining a optimistic outlook and Studio J (respectively) along with Naomi Smith's fabulous time management training. We also did two create and takes - a photo cube and a two page layout (artwork to follow soon, I promise!).

I also had a chance to spend some time with 4 of the other Scrapbook Spa Getaway alumni. It was wonderful to see Krista, Jaime, Kristina and Shannon again, and to see how they are thriving in their respective businesses.

Okay, I admit it. I'm an accountant by trade, so crunching numbers is second nature to me. Last night, I was thinking what a fabulous value the starter kit was to begin with, but WOW - at half price? Now, it's an incredible, don't pass this up value!

So, here's how it breaks down as far as retail value/cost:

The business essentials (business supplies such as forms, etc) - $24.75. Everyone gets this with their starter kit regardless of the "Choose Me" options selected.

CTMH - May 4/$10 Workshop

Each month, on the third Thursday, I have a 4/$10 workshop. On May 19th, we'll use the Sophia papers for our layouts!

If you'd like to join the fun in May, we'll complete 4 pages for $10 (or free with a $30 order). We meet at 6:45 PM until 9:00 PM. Make sure you RSVP by 05/14/2011!
